Unlock Your Future in Hair:

The Artisan Parlor Internship Program

Are you an aspiring hairstylist eager to level up your skills and make your mark in the beauty industry? Look no further! The Artisan Parlor Salon in Temecula offers an unparalleled Internship Program designed to give you real-world experience, hands-on training, and mentorship opportunities that will set you up for success in your hairstyling career.

Why Our Internship Program is Your Key to Success

At The Artisan Parlor, we understand the challenges recent beauty school graduates face. That’s why our internship program focuses on bridging the gap between what you’ve learned in school and the expertise clients expect from seasoned professionals. Our program is perfect for those in the last three months of beauty school or licensed stylists with less than two years of experience.

As a prospective artist at The Artisan Parlor, you’ll dive into a unique learning environment where you’re not just an observer but an active participant. You’ll contribute two five-hour shifts per week, where you’ll help keep the salon running smoothly while gaining invaluable experience. Whether it’s managing salon coordination, performing housekeeping tasks, or supporting seasoned stylists, every role is designed to help you grow.

Hands-On Learning from the Best

Our interns get exposure to real clients through our free blowout program, where you’ll have the chance to perfect your skills with the guidance of our talented team. This gives you a soft launch into life behind the chair while building your confidence and expertise. As a bonus, our clients show their appreciation by tipping interns for their efforts!

Beyond blowouts, you’ll assist our veteran artists with tasks like washing, blow-drying, and documenting color formulas. You’ll even have the opportunity to help set up for success by making sure everything from tools to towels is prepped for the day. Each of these roles not only contributes to the smooth operation of our salon but also strengthens your foundation as a hairstylist.

Build Confidence, Skills, and Connections

Working closely with The Artisan Parlor team allows you to build connections with both stylists and clients, creating a network that can launch your career forward. Our internship program isn’t just about gaining hours—it’s about developing the skill set that will make you a successful, high-demand stylist in today’s competitive beauty industry. During the program you will have opportunity to earn free access to our color bar and station time in order to practice your newly developed skill set on models of your choice.

We also believe in rewarding dedication. Upon successful completion of the internship, you’ll receive a personal letter of recommendation from our salon owner, Lauren Slays Hair, and an invitation to apply as an hourly pay-per-use renter at our salon. Whether you choose to stay with us or move on to other opportunities, this endorsement will show future employers that you’ve gained meaningful experience at one of Temecula’s leading salons.

Artisan Parlor Intern Program vs. Traditional Assisting:

A Side-by-Side Comparison

Aspect

Artisan Parlor Intern Program

Traditional Assisting

Program Structure

Structured with a clear curriculum and milestones for growth.

Often lacks structure; more focused on daily support tasks with no clear growth plan.

Hands-On Learning

Direct hands-on experience with clients (e.g., blowouts, color, styling).

Limited hands-on experience, mostly assists lead stylists with their clients.

Client-Building Opportunities

Interns are encouraged to open their own books and offer complimentary blowout services as well as basic color/cuts to real clients.

Rarely given access to build personal clientele; focused on assisting lead stylist's clients.

Mentorship

Regular feedback from veteran stylists; opportunity to grow into mentorship roles.

Mentorship often informal and varies based on the lead stylist’s availability.

Skill Development

Comprehensive training in color theory, cutting, styling, salon operations, and client service.

Limited to what is observed from assisting; no structured education on advanced skills or salon management.

Compensation

No paid hours during intern shifts, but flexible $10/hour station rental after program completion, opportunities to earn free color and chemcial for services durring program, as well as tools provided for services on paying clients.

Paid minimum wage, but often for assisting tasks rather than learning opportunities.

Rental Opportunities

After program completion, interns can rent a chair at $10/hour with no commitment.

No access to rental opportunities within the assisting framework.

Marketing & Exposure

Interns are featured on the salon website and marketing platforms, with access to new client bookings.

No personal marketing or exposure; clients typically book with lead stylist only.

Career Progression

Step-by-step progression into an independent stylist with client-building tools.

Often leads to a stagnant role until leaving for another salon to start independently.

Program Duration

100-120 hours over flexible shifts, focused on consistent skill-building and salon support.

Varies; often based on the lead stylist’s needs rather than a set timeline for growth.

Post-Program Benefits

$250 hair color credit for graduates; ongoing mentorship and flexible rental options.

Typically no post-program benefits; may need to leave salon to pursue independent work.

Client Service Focus

Interns practice the 8-step client service plan, essential for building long-term clientele.

Focused on assisting tasks, often with little to no client interaction or relationship building.

Independence Preparation

Designed to transition stylists into independent business owners with knowledge of salon operations, marketing, and skill mastery.

Little focus on preparing assistants for independence; usually leaves stylists unprepared to manage clients or their own business.

Long-Term Growth

Opportunity to mentor new interns and continue using discounted rental options as you grow.

Limited growth potential; often stuck in assisting role for extended periods.

Key Benefits of the Artisan Parlor Intern Program:

  • Structured learning path with clear goals.

  • Hands-on experience with real clients, not just assisting.

  • Opportunity to build your own clientele while learning.

  • Access to affordable, commitment-free rental options after graduation.

  • Focus on career progression and independent stylist success.

  • Mentorship opportunities to continue learning and leading others.

The Artisan Parlor Intern Program is designed to empower stylists, offering a clear path to independence, while traditional assisting often leaves stylists with limited growth and opportunities.
